It is nearly summer and your pool is still not open. It could be that you have been slacking or that this is your first time and you honestly don’t know how to do it. Lack of initiative isn’t easily cured but the first step is getting an idea of how to open your pool properly.
If closed properly the water level should be below the jets and the top covered and weighted down around the perimeter. If you can see the cover has been compromised in any way or the water level isn’t where it should be, you should call professionals right now and save yourself a headache.
Your pool is unique but if it all seems to be in order then read on.
Call a friend over to before proceeding because this is a job for two. Remove the water that has pooled on top of the cover with a pump and clear any leaves, branches and debris. It’s a big job but stops all this junk from spilling into the pool and damaging it. After draining the cover, remove the water bags or weights from the edges and make sure the entire cover doesn’t slide into the pool. Remove the cover, clean it up and let it dry out before you store it. Next you should put your jets back in and double check that the pump and plumbing is all in order before turning it on. Once the water is filling up be sure to vacuum and put all the proper chemicals into the pool before swimming.
