The ultimate in pampering facials

What does your face say about you? Are you well rested? Do you look refreshed or haggard? Is your skin hydrated or dry? Our faces can betray a lot of information about us – both to those who know us well and those we meet for the first time.

Some simple facial treatments can be surprisingly effective. The best incorporate relaxation and pampering into a regimen that’s been tailored specifically for you.

The most popular facial treatment at Happy Foot Spa is the Basic Essential Facial, says General Manager Jessica Wang. The hour-long indulgence includes a basic deep cleansing, exfoliation and facial massage. Massage is the signature component of this treatment; it focuses on the acupressure points on the face, lymphatic drainage and lifting. Clients receive a full ten to fifteen minutes of facial massage with each treatment.

High frequency massage serves two functions. “It helps fight inflammation, something commonly seen in patients with acne. And it’s really good at stimulating collagen production, for more mature skin,” says Wang.

Blackheads are unsightly and not all that pleasant to talk about, yet most of us have them. To keep skin looking its best they should be removed. Most spas use fingers or harsh metal instruments, both of which can hurt clients’ skin.

Staff at Happy Foot Spa use two effective methods. One involves a fine metal instrument that can hurt a little but allows for deep removal, says Wang. Most clients don’t require this, however. A gentler method also works really well – a suction tube she describes as “very nice, pain-free, causes no discomfort and removes deep impurities and oil”.

Wang recommends clients get facials twice a month. It can depend upon ethnicity, she says, with certain skin types more prone to specific challenges. “Every twenty-eight days you have dead skin,” she says. “Having regular facials gets rid of the dead skin and helps refresh. It also definitely helps to moisturize the skin.” Other effective treatments, like microdermabrasion, are also available.

While tending to your skin, staff use every opportunity to incorporate relaxation. When clients have a facial treatment on, they’re not simply left alone. They get an arm and a chest-line massage to add a bit of pampering.
